Bowling Fun

We started the morning with our summer readers theater performances.  Students were grouped with their classmates to perform short plays for the class.  After only practicing for a couple of days, the students performed with ease.  Just another opportunity to practice this speaking and listening skills in 1st grade!

We had an awesome time at Red River Lanes this afternoon!  I'll admit, I was a bit worried about the walk.  Thankfully, the temperature was perfect and the route was planned, so we were ready!  The students walked without complaining, singing their camp songs along the way.  I'm sure it was a sight to see with six teachers along for the trip, carefully sandwiched between the three classes.  We arrived at the bowling alley and the students quickly grabbed their shoes and found their lanes.  The great employees of the Red River Lanes had pre-programmed all students into the groups we had assigned.  It was slick!  With a dark alley, lights shining and music playing, we were off!  We had a great time.  There wasn't any complaining and lots of laughter.  What a great end of the year trip!
Look at those cute bowlers!

Team 1st Grade had a great time bowling (even the teachers)!
Smiles all around!
Silly Faces!
Tomorrow will be busy as we wrap up a great year!  Students will finish cleaning their desks and lockers out, attend the final Character Champion Assembly, receive their 1st grade awards, and participate in field day (I am hopeful for good weather!).  It is sure to be a day full of smiles and fun!  Don't forget to send your child in comfortable clothing and shoes.  Sunscreen and a water bottle are encouraged.

Congratulate your soon to be 2nd grader on a great year tomorrow morning when they wake up!  It has been an absolute pleasure to work with your students this year!

The Big Day Has Come!

Can you believe it?  It seems just like yesterday that we were sending home information about the Reading Trophy program, and now the program is just around the corner (tomorrow)!  We have been busy practicing with Mr. Underwood all week and will spend some time practicing the logistics of the program tomorrow morning.  Bring your cameras and be ready to smile tomorrow as these students have worked hard and are so excited for the big day!  See you all tomorrow at 1:15.

Last week in honor of meeting our goal for the trophy program, we had a pizza party.  I joined the students at their desks as we ate pizza.  I think they thought it was so funny to see me sitting at a desk with them, eating lunch!  We had fun visiting and I always love hearing about their lives on a more personal level.

I want to send out a HUGE thank you to all of the families that have donated items for camp.  From toilet paper tubes to bird seed, the items are greatly appreciated.  The shirts were delivered today and I will be busy decorating the classroom over the weekend.  My goal, make our little room look like a traditional campsite!  I know we will have excited campers next week!  Please note, we will keep the shirts at school all week unless there is a major spill.  We may also ask our 1st graders to wear their camp shirts the final week of school when we go on our field trips.  Bright blue shirts make 1st graders easy to see!  Watch for LOTS of photos next week.  My plan is to simply post photos (without a narrative) so you can see what our week looks like.

Today we celebrated Coby's birthday!  He was kind enough to give me a yellow cupcake, since he knows yellow is my favorite color!  Happy Birthday, Coby!

Upcoming Reminders:

May 13: Reading Trophy Program at 1:15
May 16-20: Camp Learned-A-Lot Week
May 20: Learn Not to Burn Firetruck Visit

Happy May Day!

Good Evening,

I hope you have enjoyed the beautiful weather today as much as I have.  My boys even convinced me to pull out the water table for some wet and wild fun!  It's funny how warm temperatures in the 60's feel with someone just around the corner!

I wanted to touch base tonight to ensure that all families had received the Camp Learned-A-Lot Packet.  The first page offers some information about the week and some items all students can bring to make our camp-like experience feel more authentic!  This is the first year the 1st grade team is doing this, so we have spent quite some time planning and preparing for the event.  We are all creating and preparing and even have our families on board making catapults (to launch marshmallows for measuring) and designing t-shirts for the week.  It is an all hands on deck and we so appreciate our husbands and parents for all of their help!  The second page of the packet asks for your help!  We will be serving a camp inspired snack each day and the ingredients will get costly if just one person is purchasing.  We are asking for any help you can provide.  Please note, if you mark that you can donate one (or more item), this does not necessary mean you are to bring this.  Please wait for a confirmation note to come home to verify the item/s.  We don't need 4 families bringing gummy worms, for example.  I'll try to divide the items among families.  I know our Washington families are so very generous!

Our class Pizza Party is just around the corner!  I had a few parents ask for a few more details about this so I wanted to clarify.  I will be purchasing pizza to serve for lunch this day.  Students will get milk from the lunchroom or are welcome to bring a juice box from home.  Additionally, students are welcome to bring themselves a side item such as carrot sticks, yogurt, crackers, etc.  The students will place their "orders" with me this week as to if they want one or two slices of pizza.  This will help me estimate our needs when ordering.  Don't have a pizza lover?  If perhaps your child doesn't like pizza, like my oldest son, he or she is welcome to bring a sack lunch.  We will be eating in the classroom for this special event!

This past week we celebrated another Character Champion, Sonja.  Sonja was chosen for her strong drive and desire to push herself in the classroom as well as for her willingness to show kindness and support for her peers.  She is a true team player and a great addition to our classroom.  Way to go, Sonja!
Did you hear the news?  Olivia's name was also draw for submitting all of her Weekly Word Writing for the month of April!  Our class won the traveling pencil award this month!
