Sterling's Snippets: Happy May Day!

Good Evening,

I hope you have enjoyed the beautiful weather today as much as I have. My boys even convinced me to pull out the water table for some wet and wild fun! It's funny how warm temperatures in the 60's feel with someone just around the corner!

I wanted to touch base tonight to ensure that all families had received the Camp Learned-A-Lot Packet. The first page offers some information about the week and some items all students can bring to make our camp-like experience feel more authentic! This is the first year the 1st grade team is doing this, so we have spent quite some time planning and preparing for the event. We are all creating and preparing and even have our families on board making catapults (to launch marshmallows for measuring) and designing t-shirts for the week. It is an all hands on deck and we so appreciate our husbands and parents for all of their help! The second page of the packet asks for your help! We will be serving a camp inspired snack each day and the ingredients will get costly if just one person is purchasing. We are asking for any help you can provide. Please note, if you mark that you can donate one (or more item), this does not necessary mean you are to bring this. Please wait for a confirmation note to come home to verify the item/s. We don't need 4 families bringing gummy worms, for example. I'll try to divide the items among families. I know our Washington families are so very generous!

Our class Pizza Party is just around the corner! I had a few parents ask for a few more details about this so I wanted to clarify. I will be purchasing pizza to serve for lunch this day. Students will get milk from the lunchroom or are welcome to bring a juice box from home. Additionally, students are welcome to bring themselves a side item such as carrot sticks, yogurt, crackers, etc. The students will place their "orders" with me this week as to if they want one or two slices of pizza. This will help me estimate our needs when ordering. Don't have a pizza lover? If perhaps your child doesn't like pizza, like my oldest son, he or she is welcome to bring a sack lunch. We will be eating in the classroom for this special event!

This past week we celebrated another Character Champion, Sonja. Sonja was chosen for her strong drive and desire to push herself in the classroom as well as for her willingness to show kindness and support for her peers. She is a true team player and a great addition to our classroom. Way to go, Sonja!

Did you hear the news? Olivia's name was also draw for submitting all of her Weekly Word Writing for the month of April! Our class won the traveling pencil award this month!
